Edmonton’s Kohan Foundation Fundraiser: Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Last Saturday night I had the privilege of photographing a truly incredible event! The Kohan Foundation held its fifth annual Red carpet gala in Edmonton. The monies raised directed to fund Edmonton’s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. To date, they have successfully raised over $280,000 and hope to build the endowment to a total of $1,000,000! I can’t wait to here how much money the raised last weekend!

In 2008, Edmonton’s homeless count was 3079, and of those 259 were children under the age of 16. At its current growth rate it would reach 6500 by 2018. The Kohan foundation and it supporters believe we must transition from managing homelessness, with short-term solutions, to ending it with housing and support. Central to this is adoption of the Housing First approach.

Edmonton’s 10 Year Plan is working. The October 2012 homeless count found 2,147 homeless Edmontonians, 29% fewer than the 2008 count. As of 2014, permanent homes have been secured for 2,909 people who had been living on the streets – the vast majority are in private rental market buildings across the City. Of those, 84% of the people housed successfully stayed in their homes.

This year the theme for this black tie party was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and all the guests stepped up to look the part. Not to be outdone by the Host and Party planners who put so much thought into every charming blue detail. Here are a few of my favourite images from the night!
